Rob Lamberti presents perfectly George

Comments Off on Rob Lamberti presents perfectly George

Featuring the incredible voice of Rob Lamberti, this show has wowed audiences around the country and Europe and lifted them to their feet, in a dynamic show that tactfully and appropriately celebrates the career of one of the most gifted performers of a generation. From Wham! all the way through to the diverse eras of George’s hugely successful solo career, including timeless hits like Careless WhisperFaithI’m Your ManClub Tropicana, and so many more, the show tells the story of George Michael in the vast repertoire of songs that made him an icon to so many.

Rob Lamberti, definitively & perfectly George, instantly became a fan favourite across social media. Quite simply, as leading theatre blog West End Wilma called, ‘a… brilliant show…. nothing short of perfection, and what a magical way to pay homage to the late and great, Mr George Michael.’

Ditto the Southern Daily Echo commented that the show ‘… had the entire audience from the stalls to the balcony up on their feet dancing.’

Rob Lamberti is a star in his own right after featuring on the BBC’s Even Better Than the Real Thing in 2017. Bearing a voice worthy of performing George’s remarkable catalogue of hits, he has gone on to establish a successful career playing homage to his hero. Rob also featured in the Steve Coogan film Greed.

An Update from the Armed Forces Major Events Team (February 2026):

Armed Forces Day each June represents one of the borough’s largest annual events, requiring months of detailed preparation and planning by the Armed Forces Major Engagement Team (AFMET).  As confirmed before Christmas, work has already begun on Armed Forces Day 2026, which is set to look different this year as the event coincides with major regeneration works in the centre of Cleethorpes.
The 2026 Armed Forces Weekend will take place on 27–28 June. However, in a change to the last few years, there will be no community carnival this year.
Alex Baxter, Managing Director of AFMET, the community interest company that delivers the event on behalf of the borough, said:
“Over the last few months, we have been looking at how we can deliver the best event within the constraints of the resort this year. We remain fully committed to making sure that the Armed Forces Weekend goes ahead, attracting large amounts of visitors and boosting the local economy, as it has done for years. The Council have confirmed that all of Pier Gardens will be taken out of use as the works will be underway – this is normally an area that is well used during the event, both for stands and stalls, and also for people to spread out in. For safety, we need to use the wider footprint of the resort, including Meridian Showground and the Boating Lake areas for the event this year. We are a small team of volunteers, and as such, we need to focus our efforts on making sure that the military parade, one of the main highlights of Armed Forces Day, goes ahead safely along a shorter, and different route for this year. Unfortunately, we don’t have a sufficiently long parade route or resource to manage the Community Carnival safely, as well as implementing all the necessary changes for this year.”
Subject to sponsorship and funding, the 2026 event is expected to retain its key attractions, including the big wheel, flying displays, land-based exhibitions, and the traditional parade—although changes to positioning and layout will be necessary. The whole weekend is about celebrating our armed forces communities and families and saying thank you for their service. We work throughout the year with our blue-light colleagues to ensure the event is delivered safely. With the additional challenges this year, even more preparation is needed, and we are grateful for the continued support of all partners who help bring this event to life.”
Organisations or businesses interested in sponsoring part of the 2026 event are encouraged to contact the team via email: enquiries@afmet.co.uk

Discover Barnoldby – a talk

Comments Off on Discover Barnoldby – a talk

Local historian and author, Emma Lingard, will be giving a talk on the history of Barnoldby le Beck, its church, residents and some of the fabled legends surrounding the black Grim. Did you know the first Frenchman to sit in the House of Commons lived here? Or that the person who founded Private Eye was born in the village? Expect some interesting anecdotes and stories about this village.

All monies raised from the talk will be given to the upkeep of St Helen’s Church, a Grade I listed building dating back to the Norman age.

Emma is a local historian and broadcaster who wrote the book Grimsby Streets in 2017. She leads guided history tours around north east Lincolnshire and is a regular contributor to the media when it comes to the area’s history. Recently she has been on Sky News, BBC Radio 4, Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, and BBC One’s Who Do You Think You Are.
